The association was established in 1997, taking as its name the name of the local authority that was created at approximately the same time.
The former districts of Kilmarnock & Loudoun and Cumnock & Doon Valley are the areas covered by East Ayrshire. The Society, however, holds records relating to the entire county of Ayrshire.
The association’s main objectives are to encourage and promote the study of genealogy and family history, especially in the area.
They also offer assistance to members whose ancestors come from the area, but who live too far away to conduct research themselves.
