The Genealogy section of Yorkshire Archaeological Society was formed in 1973, and has hundreds of members worldwide. The aims of the association are to encourage and promote the study of genealogy and to help members in their research.

Society Genealogical Materials
The Society provides access to an extensive library of material about the area, especially Leeds and the West Riding, these now being held in the University of Leeds Brotherton Library or Leeds City Central Library. These materials include:
- Books
- Maps
- Monumental inscriptions
- Parish register transcripts
- Photographs
- Publications from other societies
The Archives formerly held in Claremont are now held in the University of Leeds Library’s Special Collections (located in thee Brotherton Library). These materials include family collections, estate papers and manorial records. Court Rolls for the Manor of Wakefield 1274-1925 are included in this collection.

If you wish to visit their Office, it is imperative that you book in advance because it is only manned part-time.
